| What
makes an "action movie" is of course a fairly wide field, and
how exactly how much "action" a film might have is often hard to
guess without having actually seen the film. Regardless, 1999 does look to
have a fair amount of action films, though many of them are cross-genre
films (sci-fi action, action comedy, etc.), but then again... I guess it's
that way every year. :)

|
The
thing about "comedy", and any attempt to organize movies into
this genre, is that comedic elements are common enough in a good portion
of all movies released by the major studios. (humor sells) And so, some of
the movies listed to the left are actually comedic hybrids (sci-fi comedy,
romantic comedy, etc.)

| Genre
Definition: What
makes a movie "erotic" is probably in the eye of the beholder,
and some of these movies are certainly more erotic than others.
Essentially, these are movies where some element of sex is a noticeable
portion of the film. Please note that a film can be "erotic"
without showing any true nudity (Cruel
Intentions, for example). |

THRILLERS |
| Genre
Definition: Easily confused with thrillers,
horror films are those that are designed primarily to scare the audience. |
Genre Definition: These are the movies coming soon
that seem like the ones aimed at children ten and under (though some of
them may appeal to older people too). |
Genre
Definition: Science fiction these days is really quite flexible...
it's not necessarily just futuristic or outer space stuff. Simply put,
it's anything where science is central to the film in its many
manifestations. |
Genre Definiton: Though possibly confused with their
close cousin, horror
movies, thrillers are those films in which an unease and tension
runs through the film, leading up to moments of excitement and perhaps a
bit nail-biting, but are not necessarily about "fright", but
more about tension and anxiety. |

Genre
Description: It's
worth noting that since this site is based in the USA, "foreign
language" essentially means anything other than English. Generally,
foreign language films released in the USA are subtitled. |
Genre
Definition: These are the movies where music plays a crucial part of
the film in some way. |

EYE CANDY |
X |
| Genre Definition: Essentially, these are movies where
romance plays some noticeable part of the story. |
Genre Definition: These are the films that either
feature primarily teenage casts, or are those where teenagers are the
center of the story. |
Genre Description: Okay, this might be a fairly
unconventional genre, but what "eye candy" basically describes
are those films in which "special effects", or maybe just the
director's unique filming style, are so much a part of the movie that some
people may want to see the movie merely for them. |
